Our specialty is in using advanced tools to see tiny objects that are invisible to the naked eye. We can observe and capture images—and even videos—of live cells, tissues, organs, and more. These imaging technologies help us understand the structures and functions to push scientific discovery.
The Light Microscopy Imaging Core facilities (LMIC) at Case Western Reserve University provide advanced imaging systems including whole slide scanning, confocal microscopy, STED microscopy, lightsheet microscopy, and spatial omics. Supported by sophisticated data analysis software, these systems enable detailed studies of cells, tissues, and organisms, driving significant research discoveries. Join us in advancing scientific explorations!

Frequently Asked Questions
What are your location and the hours of operation?
We are located on the 6th floor in Robbins building, Room E-632. Our staffed hours are Monday-Friday,
9 am – 5 pm. Most of our instruments are available 24/7 to trained users. Google Map
Do you provide training for your instruments?
Yes. We train users on various microscopes including confocal, lightsheet, and epi-fluorescent microscopes. We do not provide training for spatial-omic instruments such as Xenium or CosMx. Please go to iLab (Light Microscopy Imaging Core) to request a training session for a particular instrument. Once you are trained, you can use the instrument after booking time slots in iLab.
How do I sign up for an instrument?
Go to iLab and select an instrument and a time slot under “Schedule Equipment” tab if you are already trained, or request a consultation / training session for a specific instrument under “Request Services” tab.
How do I sign up for NanoZoomer Digital Slide Scanner?
Submit a request via iLab first. Then email us at [email protected] to set up a time to drop off your slides. Once the work is completed, we will notify you via email. We can then set up a time for you to pick up your slides as well as retrieve your data (please bring your own USB). For more questions, refer to NanoZoomer FAQs.
What is the cost of your service?
The pricing for all our services is listed under Resources -> Price List.
